Discovery Park of America to Collect Canned Goods for Local Charities for the Holidays
Union City, Tenn.— Discovery Park of America will be a drop-off location for members of the community to bring canned goods to help stock local food pantries during the holiday season. Anyone can drop off canned goods at the ticket window at Discovery Park from Sun., Nov. 15 through Wed., Dec. 30, 2020.
To kick off this initiative and allow people to give without leaving their vehicle, there will be a drop-off point in the parking lot of Discovery Park on Sat., Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In the past, Discovery Park held “Canstruction” each year, and canned goods were purchased to build structures for the STEM-focused competition. Cans were then donated to food banks.
“We are encouraging all members of the community to donate cans beginning Nov. 14 to contribute to the local food pantries,” said Polly Brasher, education director for Discovery Park. “Since so many events, like ‘Canstruction,’ have been canceled or postponed, we thought we could help in this way.”
The canned food will be donated to Chimes for Charity and Helping Hands in Union City, Tenn., and We Care Ministries of Martin, Tenn.
Canned goods can be dropped off at the main entrance gate of Discovery Park on Sat., Nov. 14, and at the front ticket counter Nov. 15 through Dec. 30, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
